Almond is a drupe. The meaning of drupe is a fleshy fruit with thin skin and a central stone containing the seed, e.g., a plum, cherry, almond, or olive.

There are two varieties of almonds:

  1. The bitter one known as amara and it is known to have hydrocyanic acid which is used as a sedative.
  2. The other one is sweet which we eat and it is also known as dulcis. It is highly nutritious.

In the Indian Culture, it is widely taken every morning for the overall energy and supporting brain health.

While it is taken in the dry form in many cultures, there is a special method of boosting its effectiveness in the Indian culture.

Here are the steps to make the almonds super powerful:

  • Soak the almonds overnight in a wet cloth
  • Peel and remove the skin in the morning
  • Now make the paste in a blender
  • Add this paste to your morning smoothie or warm milk. In India it is taken normally with warm milk.

Soaking process help neutralize the enzyme inhibitors on the almonds skin and removes tannins. This also allows the almond seed to start sprouting. This process increases the normal benefits of almonds and make it a super herb by increasing its nutritional value.

For the scientific minds, almonds are a good source of the following benefits:

  • Omega 3 & Omega 6 fatty acids
  • Minerals such as Manganese, Copper, Potassium, Phosphorus & Magnesium
  • Known for antioxidants, mono-unsaturated fats and low in saturated fats

Widely taken in the Indian culture to help support Cholesterol health.

In Ayurveda, it is suggested to use by those who have dealing with the blood sugar health challenges and want to boost up their memory health.

There is a saying also "Eating 6 almonds everyday will keep your mind sharp and healthy"

Almonds along with other nuts is also used to offer to gods in the temple as it is known as Energy Food.

Another benefit of almonds is that it is believed to calm your mind and nerves due to its aphrodisiac qualities.

Other Exotic Benefits of Almonds

Besides the above benefits shared, there are many other exotic benefits of taking almonds.

  • In certain parts of India, it is taken to increase vitality by mixing almond paste with honey and saffron.
  • Oil of almonds is used as face oil to reduce and prevent wrinkles as almonds are known as a good source for vitamin E.
  • Almond paste mixed with yogurt is also used a face pack to rejuvenate face skin.
